Managers of a housing complex blighted by crime and anti-social behavior are fighting back after paying for two new security cameras to be installed.
Social housing provider Axiom Housing Association has responded to concerns raised by residents at police panel meetings about levels of crime in Berry Court, Millfield.
One block of flats in particular, in which residents share a communal entrance rather than having their own front doors, has been regularly hit by crime, being one of the few places in the court not covered by security cameras.
But this has now been rectified with two new cameras coming on line last week, which Axiom managers hope will prove a deterrent to crime and anti-social behavior in the complex.
The majority of problems have been linked with youths gaining access to and misusing the complex’s communal areas.
In recent years there have been complaints made about alleged drug abuse, drug dealing, fly-tipping, noise nuisance and general anti-social behavior.
Empty properties meanwhile would have metal shutters put up over windows and doors to protect them from vandalism or criminal damage.
The installation of the latest cameras has been welcomed by local bobby PC Petr Torak, who thinks they will make would-be criminals think twice about offending in Berry Court.
